Winning the Champion Award earned the 8-Bit Falcons a trip to the MN VEX IQ State Championship March 1st.
The VEX V5 Robotics Competition team "Invision" competed in the High Stakes tournament in which they made it to the Finals round of 16, but were eliminated . They were able to impress the judges and won the Judge's Award. The Judge's Award recognizes attributes the Judges felt were deserving of special recognition.
If you are unfamiliar with VEX Robotics, VEX IQ Robotics Competition Rapid Relay is played on a 6’ x 8’ rectangular field. Two robots compete in the Teamwork Challenge as an alliance in 60 second long teamwork matches working collaboratively to score points. These matches are tallied throughout the day to get a ranking. In the final Teamwork Challenge, teams are paired with a team of similar ranking, i.e. places 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th, and so on. The team that gets the highest score wins the Teamwork Challenge Award for 1st place and 2nd place.
The VEX V5 Robotics Competition High Stakes is played on a 12’ x 12’ square field, and two alliances composed of two teams each compete in matches consisting of a fifteen second autonomous period followed by a one minute and forty-five second driver controlled period. The object of the game is to attain a higher score than the opposing alliance by scoring rings on stakes, placing mobile goals, and by climbing at the end of the match. Similarly, the teams are ranked based on average scores throughout the day, and the top 16 teams are allowed to pick their partners for the finals rounds which are single elimination.
